Seasonal Allergy Support

Seasonal Allergy Support

For some people, springtime can bring challenges in the form of seasonal allergies. When trees, grasses, and flowers start to bloom, they release pollen into the air, often triggering sneezing, congestion, itchy or watery eyes, and scratchy throats for many individuals. While these symptoms can be frustrating, there are steps you can take that may help minimize their impact and find relief.

Supplement Support Recommendations

For those individuals seeking a more naturopathic approach or experiencing persistent allergy symptoms, The Apothecary carries a variety of homeopathic and supplement options.

One such option includes capsules formulated with antihistamine-like components that may help support the body’s allergen response. Additionally, many have found success using homeopathic antigen drops to address specific allergen exposures. For those dealing with nasal congestion, itchy eyes, or post-nasal drip, a selection of nasal sprays and eye drops are also available.

Other Tips & Considerations

Essential Oil Support — Lavender, Lemon, and Peppermint essential oils in a blend or individually may help open up the airways and support congestion

  • Diffuse or add a few drops to a carrier oil and apply topically to the chest or back. Always dilute essential oil if applying topically
  • **When using essential oils with children, it’s always important to dilute them properly and use them in moderation

Nasal rinse — A process of flushing out the nasal passages with a saline solution. It’s a simple and natural way to support congestion and alleviate allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, and postnasal drip.

Watch pollen count — Pollen counts are highest in the early morning hours (between 5 am and 10 am). Visit pollen.com for your local pollen forecast. On high pollen days, consider holding off on opening windows or spending time outdoors until later in the day. Keep in mind pollen levels may still linger in the evening, especially on dry, windy days.

Avoid extended allergen exposure — Take a shower and change clothes after spending time outside.

Change furnace filters— Changing your furnace filter regularly is an important step in managing allergies and creating a healthy indoor environment.
